Each spring, the College recognizes some of its highest-performing students at the Annual Awards Ceremony. Many recipients are selected by their instructors, who have supported them throughout their journey at Carteret. Join us in celebrating the achievements and dedication of these outstanding students.

- Academic Excellence Award
This award recognizes one student selected by faculty and division deans based on GPA and service to the College and community. The objective of this award is to identify and individually recognize NC Community College System students who have consistently demonstrated academic excellence.
- Arts & Science Outstanding Student in Sociology
This award is given to the student who achieves a quality grade point average in the discipline of sociology and shows strong understanding and application of the Sociological Imagination.
- Associate Degree Nursing Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the most outstanding Associate Degree Nursing student based on the following criteria: Demonstrates the art and science of nursing practice, shows a willingness to grow and adapt to new situations, exhibits leadership qualities that others can learn from, serves as a peer mentor, displays positive attitude about nursing, and exceeds expectations clinically and academically.
- Associate In Arts Outstanding Students
This award recognizes an outstanding student in the Associate in Arts program based on high academic performance and persistence in university transfer course completion. This recipient has maintained an overall GPA of 3.5 or over.
- Associate on Engineering Outstanding Student
This award recognizes an outstanding student in the Associate in Engineering program based on high academic performance and persistence in university transfer course completion. This recipient has maintained an overall GPA of 3.5 or over.
- Associate in Fine Arts Outstanding Student
This award was created to recognize students that repeatedly distinguish themselves from their peers through hard work, perseverance, talent, and overall creative excellence.
- Associate in Science Outstanding Student
This award recognizes an outstanding student in the Associate in Science pro-gram based on high academic performance and persistence in university transfer course completion. This recipient has maintained an overall GPA of 3.5 or over.
- Business Administration Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the most outstanding student in the Business Administration curriculum for exemplary attitude, dependability, and academic performance.
- Carteret CC Foundation High School Equivalency Award
This award recognizes the student with the highest high school equivalency scores from the Basic Skills Department. The College awards the recipient with one free curriculum class.
- Cosmetology Outstanding Student
This award is presented to someone who denotes the qualities of a beauty professional and presents a positive personality and exemplifies great customer service.
- Culinary Arts Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the most outstanding student in the Culinary Arts curriculum based on a combination of academic performance, personal characteristics, attitude, and service to the College.
- Dallas Herring Achievement Award Nomination
The Dallas Herring Achievement Award is established by the North Carolina Community College System to honor the late Dr. Dallas Herring whose philosophy of “taking people where they are and carrying them as far as they can go” is the guiding principle of the System. The award is given annually to a current or former community college student who best embodies Dr. Herring’s philosophy.
- Emergency Medical Science Outstanding Student
This award is given to the student who, over the course of the program, has demonstrated the skills and abilities that exemplify the professionalism of the career. This student is motivated to succeed, constantly strives to improve, and goes above and beyond what is required. This student also displays leadership qualities and supports and promotes the success of classmates.
- Esthetics Outstanding Student
This award is presented to someone who denotes the qualities of a beauty professional and displays professionalism in all instances.
- Governor Robert Scott Leadership Nomination
This award recognizes student leadership on a statewide level while also honoring former Governor Robert Scott. Governor Scott served as the State’s Chief Executive from 1968-1972 and then was president of the North Carolina Community College System from 1983-1995. Governor Scott passed away in January 2009, but he was very humbled that the system named a student award in his honor. This is an award designed to highlight outstanding curriculum student leadership and service.
- Human Services Technology Outstanding Student
This award recognizes one Human Services Technology student selected by the program chair based on academic performance and leadership both in the classroom and internship setting. The student embodies the ideals of a human service professional, demonstrating care and support for others, both classmates and clients.
- Information Technology Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the most outstanding student in the Information Technology curriculum based on a combination of academic performance, personal characteristics, attitude, and service to the College. The recipient must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 on all coursework, be active in club activities and college life, exemplify professionalism in deportment, and give evidence of reliability, dependability, and other positive personal characteristics.
- Manicuring Outstanding Student
This award is presented to a student who denotes the qualities of a beauty professional and exemplifies great customer service.
- Office Technologies Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the student who demonstrates reliability, dependability, and other positive personal characteristics.
- Paralegal Technology Outstanding Student
This award goes to a student who has shown excellence and consistency in Paralegal Technology classes, who is committed to the program, and who exhibits stellar performance in a work-based learning internship.
- Parker Mathematics Scholarship Endowment
This award recognizes the most outstanding student who started mathematics education in college preparatory math courses. The recipient must have completed math courses through Pre-calculus Trigonometry with no less than “C” grades.
- Photographic Technology Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the student who exemplifies excellence in the craft, professionalism in work ethic, motivation to improve, and consideration and support for classmates.
- Radiography Outstanding Student
This award recognizes the second-year student who has demonstrated exceptional knowledge and clinical skills in radiography, as well as professionalism, a positive attitude, respectfulness to others, and dependability and integrity throughout the program.
- Outstanding Respiratory Therapy Student sponsored by Carteret Health Care
This award is presented by Carteret Health Care in Memory of Marline Schoden and recognizes the graduating Respiratory Therapy student who best demonstrates academic and clinical skills, as well as professionalism relative to clinical rotations.
- Teacher Preparation Outstanding Student
In 2021, the North Carolina Community College System developed a new pathway for students to begin their teacher preparation studies at a community college and then transfer to one of the educator preparation programs within the UNC System to complete a bachelor’s degree and become a licensed teacher in the K-12 system. The teacher preparation award aims to recognize a student who has excelled academically in the Teacher Preparation degree program and demonstrates outstanding qualities of a future educator.
- Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act Adult/Youth Grant Recipient
Formerly known as the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA), was established in 1996, with Carteret Community College as the provider. The award was established to honor the grant participant who excelled academically as well as in all other aspects of the program. In 2013, Carteret Community College became the provider of the WIOA Adult, Youth, and Dislocated Worker Grant program; and, in 2015, a new award was established to honor the grant participant in those programs.
