Health Heroes Camp
Rising 6th-Rising 9th Graders
Offered through the generous support of the North Carolina GSK Foundation's Ribbon of Hope Grant
Carteret Community College's free Health Heroes Camp is a program designed to inspire and educate young students about health science careers and education opportunities in Carteret County. Health Heroes Camp (HHC) is a collaboration between Carteret Community College, Carteret Health Care, Carteret County Health Department, NC State Cooperative Extension, Carteret County Public Schools, and The Science House of NC State. This camp will not only introduce students to the fundamentals of health science and healthy habits; it will highlight the vital roles of healthcare professionals and the diversity of careers and educational programs within our college and community. By promoting knowledge and appreciation of the local healthcare sector, Health Heroes Camp seeks to ignite students' passion for science and health while building a foundation for future educational and career pursuits.
Health Heroes Camp will feature interactive workshops in health science fundamentals, guided field trips to local healthcare organizations, and guest speakers from various health professions. Activities will include practical demonstrations of medical procedures, health-related science experiments, and career exploration exercises. Other topics will focus on nutrition and wellness, substance misuse, and anti-vaping.
Priority for camp admission will be given to invited middle school students from Carteret County Public Schools, primarily rising 7th-9th graders who have indicated an interest in healthcare and/or health science studies. Secondary preference is given to students from Carteret, Onslow, Craven, or Jones counties. Then, all North Carolina Public School students will be considered for admission. Camp applications are due no later than June 1, 2026.
Please request an application for admission by contacting the Health Heroes Camp coordinator at jareda3503@carteret.edu. When calling, please leave your name, number, and a valid email address at (252)-222-6017.
